Review: WebsiteJudge.com

Dear webmasters,

We are looking for more feedback on our own website review project WebsiteJudge.com http://websitejudge.com/en/home

Please let me know what your opinion is and what we need to change.
We know there are some usability issues (especially with adding url's and will be changing that as soon as possible).

I like the concept and, overall, I like the site. Two major suggestions:
1) The very first thing my eyes gravitate to is the Create An Account/Log In box right under the header. Maybe it's the way I'm wired, but my guard goes up when a site wants my personal information first thing. I'm willing to give it to them, but only after they earn it.
2) The second thing I see is Adsense advertisements. So before I've seen any content, I've been asked for my contact information and been expected to click away.

My suggestion:
Focus on helping the visitor **experience** your site, use a pop up window that asks them to be a judge or place the invite in different colored box in the middle of the page, and reconsider the Adsense placement.

I like the concept and your design. My suggestions are to leverage your user's experience and your bottom-line. I hope you see the positive as well as the suggestive. In my book, asking for feedback is a sign of a pro. I wish you well.

Seriously suggest you try different keywords
maybe check other similar sites for suggestions

Hi all,

@harmain
if your site is not mentioned yet please go to the most relevant category/subcategory and add your site there. I want to mention that this procedure will be made easier in the future for the sake of usability.

@joeldavis
1. especially your remark on the "create a profile" position is interesting. We ARE working to make judging websites easier (probably by logging IP's and skipping the profile creation totally. We are not exactly shure... we may use OpenID in the future or other profile login's to make things easier.
2. On the homepage it may be a wise idea indeed to look at the ads... on the topic pages the positions are excellent but my experience with the homepage are not that well anyways... good point too

@web good point... most of my views you already read in my reply to joeldavis

@navyfalcon
I do not exactly know what you mean... are the numbers you are mentioning the numbers of visits in google by keyword (like in keyword suggestion tool)?
One of the problems is that our main focus ARE reviews, ratings and rankings... I do not really know what words match our project better than these... maybe you have some suggestions?

I wouldn't spend much time on your meta keywords, google doesn't care.
You could use some improvements on your meta description, this is a good place to use the words you found with wordtracker.
You'll also want to use those works in your content, title tag and anchor links back to your site.

-
Google displays the title (up to 66 characters including spaces) and below that it displays the description (about 150 characters including spaces).
See what Google says about meta tags and keywords
http://www.google.com/support/webmas...264&topic=8522
-
Your title with the short description has the most important keywords
then the description, the next important keywords, then the body
Keywords and key phrases are what people use to find your page. The higher number in keyword suggestion tools such as wordtracker means greater popularity (number of searches per time period, such as day, week, or month)
Check all keywords in a keyword suggestion tool and use the best revelant keywords for your site content.

hope this helps

@Navyfalcon

Thanks for the reply though I know how that part works I have made the description as clear as possible (more like a "sales"talk) so that people who see us are willing to click to our site.
Also... according to Google the keyword and description tags are not used for ranking purposes. However I think it is always wise to fill it up anyway (it is always a plus compared to websites who don't) ...Google is also not the only engine around and bing is coming in hard and fast (I read somewhere that they gained 27% growth last week which is absolutely massive). I will give the wordtracker a go... never used the tool before.

@web I do not like keyword spamming so i definitly agree

Site looks good but you need to put some explanation text at the home page. When some user come here, he doesn't know what is in first 5 seconds. Most of users will go away if they don't know what is it in first 5 seconds.

@Dr_Ante Good point... we had explanation text at the homepage and will probably be putting some text in when we will update our project.

you need an image in the boxes instead of 'WJ' It looks silly to keep seeing that.

I would also suggest a big orange Create An Account button rather than the tiny text you have now. you want people to be drawn to that.

@GarrettRoss we could create a image... I will keep it into account.
About the text... I do not get it... if you do not have an account you will always see the: create account box in top... that draws a lot of attention already?.
By the way... in the future you may not need to create a profile anymore. We may integrate a social media network/more networks for the log-in procedure or just ip log the visits and judgements. It may take a while yet though

instead of an image, can't you use a snapshot of the site like the other ones on your page? I'm not sure how you do it but sites like Aboutus.org seem to do that quite easily.

The other thing I might suggest is that when you scroll over the Top 3 websites box it shouldn't change to the next card, if that makes sense. It just seems that if someone is interested in one of the sites in the box then they don't have enough time to really look at it. That's how i felt anyway.

I really like it, and I believe I added our company site onto it after seeing you submit it for "review" in another forum ;-)

Try using a bigger font size for the navigation elements like "log in" and "sign-up"

Thanks again for the feedback. We are planning a lot of improvements (though we are also working on more killerprojects that eat up our time) in the near future. Some of these improvements were suggested above.

@GarrethRoss If people go on a site with their mouse the images will stop... we have also have been conscidering Snapshots but that would change our project quite drasticly. Also the images are hosted and gathered by ourselves... we do not use thumbshot.org or .com but may do so in the future (probably a dual system).
