review: naturalselection.biz

please give me honest thoughts on http://www.naturalselection.biz/

there is a few minor changes that will be happening tonight as well as fixes for ie7< as so far this is the only browser that i know doesn't display it as it should be, but welcome anyone to find another browser that isn't showing the site correctly.

i've made the design all myself though with some inspiration from some popular places. the cart system is opencart.

The green in these dropdowns are way too bright, it hurts the eyes.

http://prntscr.com/3wt9l
Y U NO SHOW UP IMAGE?

http://prntscr.com/3wta3
This dropdown at the very top should have the links do something on hover, the majority prefers it that way. These too.

http://prntscr.com/3wtbg
This isn't showing up either.

Don't make a category, then have subcategories with mostly only one item per category. It's unnecessary and nothing but.

Categories like the house and home one are useless, too. If there's one subcategory, why put it under a main category? Especially if there's nothing under it... don't waste your visitors' time. They won't appreciate it. http://prntscr.com/3wtdi

If you click the 'Find out More' link on the right, you get a 404 error.

This shows up when I click "Privacy Policy" while trying to sign up. http://prntscr.com/3wthy A very unsettling one if I say so myself. O_O

"Need Advice" doesn't show up either.

That's all I'll go through for now.

thanks for the quick feedback. i will update the site then to the latest version which already addresses all but 2 of the issues so then at least we're on the same page.

issue1: i'm trying a dark green atm for when you hover but not so keen so may have to have a good jig about. on my pc screen it works great but i appreciate i've got to cater for those with different contrasts.

issue with categories: the reason is simply because we plan to add more so we're structuring it now for the future. imo it works best this way as it wont be long and then the categories will have more sub categories. the same applies for products. we have a lot more on the system but disabled whilst we don't have stock. what you see if pretty much items we've ordered but there is def more on the way so that going to things like shampoo you don't just see one item for sale.

Hello there,

Why the .biz domain name? Most people pretty much automatically associate domain names with .com. I believe there is evidence to suggest that people are more likely to trust a store with a .com domain.

Personally, I'd be worried about people typing in my email address wrong, things like that. If you don't already own it I'd make sure you buy the .com otherwise chances are you are going to lose a small percentage of people who have .com automatically imprinted in their brain. (I am one of them)

Other than that, personally I think it looks alright aesthetically.

Another thing with ecommerce stores is that of trust, a percentage of people don't like putting card details in so you have to allay that fear somehow. One way is to present security logo's and brag about your ssl, things like thawte, etc

There are always a gazzilion things to say about websites, hope those help you out somewhat.

Very nice and clean, imadam. I like the white spaces and background being white. Also everything natural to me is associaied with green. I like that it is green too.

As an ecommerce site, this is classic and good. Easy to choose categories from top and from the left.

I tried to do brand search. It didn't work for me. That would be helpful to be able to search by brand as well, since the search is verty vividly displayed.

In general I liked your site.

Very clean layout which works well with your company name.

I think that the colour green is used a little to often within the website. I understand that green is the colour for natural products but feel it might have been over used.

Also there dosn't seem to be any use of social network sites such as sharing your products of facebook.

Well...most points seem covered. The only thing I could give my 2 cents about is the header. Are you considering using a logo image for Natural Selection. The logo usually is what catches my eye atleast. Also, if you use logo then you can shift the text for Natural Selection to the right on the header & move the Search option just above the Free Shipping image on the left hand sidebar menu.

Title tag is too long. 70 characters or less including spaces. Your title and H1 heading share the same text. They should be different. Meta description is too short. Not explaining what is on the site enough. More than one H1 heading. Should only be one. The H1 heading is too long. NO more than 10 words and 70 characters including spaces. Some images are missing alt tags (description) Combine your 2 domains using a 301 direct.

I like the design and color scheme, home page is very clean and sleek...I was at a loss though for a minute concerning the domain name prior to clicking on the link.

Natural Selection to me relates to Darwin and the Theory of Evolution, then i saw the .biz extension...after clicking on the link I see that it is an ecommerce site selling natural products.

I am all for clean and green products, the domain is the only thing here that threw me off, but if its doing well for you, keep at it...

I like the BRANDS link, showcasing all of the brands that your site carries, but why is so far off to the right as opposed to the other links?

I hope this helps!

Much Thanks,

BiologyWebmaster

The design is nice and clean. The website is easy to use and navigate. The .biz domain name is not as popular but this might not be a problem in UK. Here are few technical things you might want to look into:

- Declare character encoding
- Add robots.txt
- Add XML Sitemap
- When user registers or login it should be in SSL
- Make sure that naturalselection.biz with www. and without redirect to the same domain (duplicate content).
- There are few other small issues. I used iwebchk - comprehensive website review tool

Good luck.
