Review: cheesecloth.us

I recently just redesigned this website which sells wholesale cheesecloth. I'm using Wordpress as the content management system.

Edit: sorry, here's live link so you don't have to copy and paste http://www.cheesecloth.us

1) what do you think of the design? - this is a theme that I found free and integrated into the site. Any suggestions for themes you think would fit a wholesale site better?

2) is the content easy to understand? If you were looking to order cheesecloth, would the information be accessible to you or does the site possibly drive you away. Also, is the contact information + Facebook information easy to see/understand (we just launched on Facebook and are trying to get likes)

3) how important do you think the blog is?

Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

No content in the thread just a subject line? You are going to scare people off this way!

I ended up going to the site still.. if you would like a review of my over all feel of the site.. it is that its un attractive and boring.. its to the point and i get what its all about at first glance but the colors and layout is so plain!

hope this helps a little! also.. you should add content and a clickable link to this thread!

Original post won't come out of moderation for some reason. Here is the original post:

BTW, i worked some magic and fixed your original post. The moderation pool got messed up for a second.

The current theme you have now doesn't really jump out at me for some odd reason. You can search the wordpress directory for some cool FREE themes. http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

The themes i'd recommend cost money and i know you looking for free themes so i won't suggest paid ones.

Where is your facebook like button? In the side column it states to like your page but you did not install the link button. I know you created a link in the menu bar to go to your fanpage but still manually add a button in that side column. Also think about joining Google+ because you could also create a page on there as well. Try to use all the top Social sites for your business. On your PRODUCTS page, try to add a link on that page to the site visitors need to visit to order stuff. I know you created a link in the menu bar but still have a link on the Products page.

Ok thanks. I was wondering why my post got taken down and the thread for some reason was still there.

I'm not really sure how to get a link in that text version. maybe I'll just embed a Facebook feed into the sidebar. The thing is I don't want to link out too much, so I am even reluctant about Facebook. I may even take it down as I don't know how important it is for a wholesale site.

The suggestion for adding a link on the products pages is duly noted and I made that change.

So I changed up the Facebook part of the page to put a like button and get rid of the link. Maybe I will add a +1 button too. Thanks again for the suggestions.

white and black is so gloomy... you can use some colors so it adds up. so with the images you use.

Review of Cheesecloth.us:

Design:
My first impression of cheesecloth.us is that the colors are too dark. It doesn't look terrible but it is boring and it hurts my eyes a little. I looked up some free wordpress themes for you to consider. I saw Graphene, and instantly thought of your site. You're probably using Graphene, but the demo of it on wordpress.org looks way nicer than what you got going on, as it uses color and images:

http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/graphene

Here is some random person's site that uses graphene in a way that also looks better than your site:

http://tek-corner.com/

I'm just listing these to give you some ideas, because cheesecloth.us is laid out very nicely with great content, it just needs some help in the color department (in my opinion). Maybe you could make the background look like cheesecloth? That might look really good.

Content:
The site content looks good. I know nothing about cheesecloth aside from my cousin wraps her fruitcake in it and what I just learned browsing your site. The images of the weaves of cheesecloth look weird to me. You can't really tell what color the cloth is from these images. Also, the image of your office building on your contact page looks horrid. That may be your office, sure, but a picture of your happy employees smiling in a group would be a much nicer photo. If you expect customers to drop in and want them to find the building, put a goole map image of where your building is located.

In your blog, all your posts are in category: uncategorized. Add a category. Call it "cheesecloth.us news" or your favorite keyword or something. Also, you should be able to remove the "No Comments" messaging on the site, since you do not accept comments.

Again, all the written content is very good.

Navigation:

Why does the link to order cheesecloth go to a different website? That is not a good customer experience.

Other than that jarring redirect, I found your site very easy to navigate.

Compatability:

I reviewed your site in Firefox and Safari - didn't notice anything funky with the layout in either browser.

Other:
It would be nice if clicking on your email address opened up the visitor's email client and populated your email address.

That's all I've got. Hope it helps.

i personally think your website really need some color

Your website is wall of text, most people read picture more than text.

Give more information on your company - like about us or something like that to gain trust.

Very very important thing is your website is loading too slow, i don't know if its me or what but i have a pretty good connection(i am from Australia by the way)

Slow loading will raise the bounce rate!! you dont want that!

Well this site is supposed to be the parent website where we deal with wholesale customers. We want to keep a wholesale feel so we just put the smaller business and retail stuff onto the e-commerce sister site.

I get your point - maybe the solution will be to put it on the sidebar where I can elaborate with more text that you will be redirected to a new website so that people don't get put off.

Thanks for the feedback.

Your website is literally black and white. There is not a pixel of color anywhere. It's incredibly bland. Everything seemed very jumbled, I didn't see any distinct borders or seperations.

I think you need to work on some website aesthetics before anything else.
