Review: experts-exchange.co.za
Hi there
Firstly, as this is the website review forum, I would love to hear your oppinions on my little forum page at www.experts-exchange.co.za. It was originally meant to help South African coders, but I think maybe the audience there is a little small, so I want to target it a little wider.
Anyways, there are two things I would dearly love to know:
1) Does the site make sense in terms of use?
2) I am testing geo targetting. Please take a look at www.experts-exchange.co.za/test and let me know if it picked up your country correctly.
Thanks a ton.
John

Your right
Hi FGTH
You're right, and I did!!!
I also usually try to be involved in the forums I am registered with (there are about 10 or so) in the sense that I try to answer or participate with more comments than questions. That way, I feel like a useful member of the community, and not a leach, which I hate.
Regards,
John
PS, this forum automatically imposes the 3 reviews before you can even ask for a review of your own site!

It correctly detects the U.S. I checked the site, it appears ok but there is a "folder is missing" notification in the month's top 10.

Hi exponent,
Thanks for checking the site and validating the geo targetting, will check the other error.
FGTH: I'm afraid to say you're right, I didn't post 3 reviews. I registered simultaneously on 2 different webmaster forums and got a little mixed up and reviewed 3 sites on the other forum...
Will review some sites now.... Thanks for pointing out, and sorry about the confusion.
John

At first sight, it's ok.Althogh I don't understand what it really wanna do.
However, I cannt understand why puts adsense in the gold position of your site.

DearMonica
Hi Monica,
Thank you for your reply. I guess I should have a little explanation of what the site is meant for on the home page?
Also, I am not sure what you mean by the gold position of the site, would you mind expanding a little more on that comment.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your time,
Regards,
John

hi,jsmcm! I think it's better to move ads from the center of the page to left side of the page (under Links section)

Hmm, the geo thingy report is a little off. It report me from a country a little north from mine
Hmm, I don't like the adsense being smack in the middle. Too little info on frontpage. You could always try putting a adsense banner 468x60 instead

Hi john, you'd better not put the adsense in the middle of you homepage. Its position is the best position of your website. Some more valued informaiton of your website is better.
I think the login form can put together with the 'quick search engine' it's easy to be found.
The nevg. still needs improvements.
These are my opinion. Hope I can do some help.

Thanks everyone
Hi there,
Thanks to everyone that reviewed my site. The thing with a site like this that you actually coded yourself is that you kind of get emotionally attached to it (or is that just me?).
However, I have decided that I am probably going to abandon this self-made site and use the open-source phpBB boards instead. Does anyone know of it and does anyone use it?
It looks really nice. I have put a sample up at http://www.premiumbeverages.co.za. There is no need to review this, I just thought I'd give a link to my test site in case anyone else wanted to see what it looks like if they wanted to grab a copy for themselves (link: www.phpbb.com).
Hope I'm doing the right thing. Anyways, thanks once again...
John

Correctly detected my location.
For me the domain name is too close to Experts-Exchange dot com, as your site is nothing like that one, I think you should do your own thing, create you own brand...
