Review: Little Pixie Gifts
Hi,
This is a pretty standard e-commerce site, we predominantly sell baby gifts and Christmas Hampers.
www.littlepixiegifts.com.au
I'd be interested in comments about overall appeal, how we can entice people further into the site from the front page.
cheers.

Being old, I think you forgot about the Grandparents who may buy and ship to their families. Their the ones with money and physical problems. (like eye sight)
Enlarge the type size to 12 points. It is hard to see on large screens. Change the "more inf." and "buy now" color to a darker shade. It really blends in to much and is hard to see.
Nice site, good luck.

The site looks nice overall, but perhaps the color scheme is a little flat. Though calming and pleasant overall, it might need more contrast to hook customers. The logo doesn't burst out at me, and the text "The Home of Special Surprises" doesn't leap out and grab me by the nostrils either. On the left, the menu uses a blue that provides some contrast. Perhaps experiment with that color, or something like it, on the main logo and text?
And though the anticipatory woman with the hat over her face looks great, I get a little confused when I juxtapose that with the top title bar: "Unique Baby gifts, gift hampers and Christmas hampers are our specialties." Maybe the site suffers from a small identity crisis? Not major, but enough to confuse some people and make branding more difficult. Eyes will get drawn to the picture first - it sucks in saccadian motion from the moment of loading - so people will tend to identify your site with that image. Does the image represent what you want it to? Does it communicate what your site sells? I'm tempted to say no, but of course it's not my site.
Just some of my thoughts on pulling in customers from the homepage. Overall a very nice site.

Thank you to everyone who has made comments so far.
Ed, I think you have made some great points. We update that main image at Christmas time to reflect Christmas baskets, but it should really be more specific at other times.
Perhaps a baby with some baby gifts etc. would make more sense. The headline could use an update and it would look good in blue too.
I'll see what I can do.

Nice site; i actually like the colours - but it seems to take a while to load.
Apart from that the navigation for me seems to flow well.

The colors are very appealing and your logo is quite clean. Can't find to much to complain about here...decent load time. I really like the round edges
Concerning drawing people into the site from the home page..mayhaps have a sale or on sale button? I do not know if your programming is going to allow, but I recently had a client that wanted a baby registry for his baby site..maybe that would do the trick.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
I think the loading speed may be due to the hosting be in Australia as I suspect most of you are in the US?

I think that this site is great, the color scheme is perfect, the content are informative except to the size of product images which is quite large and the rest are all good!

Hi camp185,
At the moment my cart doesn't allow me to add alt tags which is frustrating. I'm working on a fix.

I agree with enlarging, but use EM instead of points or pixels.
To bad about the alt text, good for usability and SEO

Hello, the website looks great overall. The earth-tone style makes it look pretty good. Shopping cart is easy to use, i'd say its a winner. Also I like the SSL posted in the corner, was that a feature by the ssl provider?

I like this site, its easy to navigate. Product pictures are clear and product information is concise. As it is an e-commerce site I particularly like the SSL certificate in the bottom right corner.

Hi Masynee.
Nice site. The colors remind of what baby's throw up.. BUT wait, that is not a bad thing... Reminded me of the days when the children were cute and did not talk back or when they wanted the lastest Wii (insert current game station here)! I like the site.
One questions. how are you for your key terms? the reason I ask is you might be harming yourself... Note here...
<TITLE>
Unique Baby Gifts, Christmas hampers & Gift Baskets| Little Pixie Gifts</TITLE>
<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<META name="description" content="Unique baby gifts, Christmas hampers & gift baskets are our specialties. We deliver to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney - in fact - Australia wide. Plus beautiful fresh flowers across Brisbane.">
<META name="keywords" content="unique baby gifts, Christmas hampers, gift hampers, gift baskets, xmas hampers, Brisbane, fresh flowers">
Title is good. Description is WAY too long and you are repeating keywords and the G might get pissed at you at sometime in the future.
8 Words is the max.. here are 9. you should cut 1 of these:
<META name="keywords" content="unique baby gifts,Christmas, hampers, baskets,Brisbane, fresh flowers"> i would take out christmas and add it back in come September.
Here is a description to keep under 150 characters with spaces and not to spam the terms...
"Unique baby gifts, Christmas hampers & gift baskets are our specialties. We deliver Australia-wide. Especially Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney always."
My two cents.
good Luck
Michael

Hi tabco,
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah the SSL authentication is provided by Comodo if you use their SSL certs.
