Post Length For Blogs

I'm just starting work on a new WP site and wondered if anyone can offer an opinion on how long a blog post should be?

A complex issue may result in a hugely long post which may deter readers, so, would it be better to do 2-3 shorter posts?

The hard part of course would be working out how to discuss the subject over a number of posts, without losing continuity. I have seen many blogs with only 100 words in each post, whereas some are incredibly long. Is there a general concensus because despite looking around, i cant see it mentioned.

Thanks.

Anyway, I suggest you to write good quality post rather than setting any word length.

Hi Snooks,

Htmlbasic tutor provided you the link, but I can suggest you that if you cannot make the content long enought and intresting. Anything attractive up to 700 words will work out very well and when you are famous you can play with your blog. You can make average of each post not to fall below 600 words.

Good site. However, I prefer typepad over word press. The tools are much better. Just my opinion.

How does this justify with the question? Did you read what was the question?

i dont think the number of words counts. I wrote a small post of 100 words or less and i found that post in the google news.

I agree with you. Length is not that important provided that you cover all your points.
Sometimes it happens that you do not have a lot of ideas for your post and you will keep adding words just to increase the word count. This can have disastrous effect on the post quality.

I have always been very long winded with my blog posts, but I am starting to realize that shorter is best. Your paragraphs should be short and sweet and entire blog post should be less than 350 words. If you must create a really long post then be sure to use bullet points, bold text and break your sentences up into several bite sized paragraphs.

it is important in content to be informative. Also I think that you should write your thought in more post to maintain readership. Also many web-masters purposely keep their content length down to a level that is readable in short grabs.

It's better for me maybe 200 words and maximum 400 words... but I often make 100-150 words to keep my continuously posting. I don't make a posting more than 400 words. I think people will lazy to read its. I'm just make a content, not a science journal... ;-)

I consistently read that posts should be 250-400 words each, but in the past I have wavered from this a lot. I haven't worked on my typepad blog in a while, but I initially started writing really long posts and I even published some of my other really long articles on this blog because I didn't sell all rights for those articles and I wanted to use them again. This is the typepad blog:www.naturalfamily.typepad.com

However, recently I started auto blogging with word press. I only wrote a few initial quick posts, but the other posts are from other webmasters. I give them a link back to their web site in exchange for content. However, relevant amazon ads are posted after the second paragraph of nearly every auto post. The content is set up with syndicate kahuna. Word press also translates the content so it looks more unique to the search engines. I am really new to auto blogging so I can't give out a lot of advice yet. I am not going use the typepad for auto blogging because I don't want anyone elses work on that blog. I've heard that a lot of people have success with auto blogging. I need to find a good ebook that explains more tactics though. Let me know if you have any recommendations. The auto posts are generally well over 250 words, but I have no control over this.

i think content matters somehow although you don't need to put it into priority. Personally, if i see a long post, i end up not reading it especially if the first few paragraphs are boring. making a concise and straight to the point articles are a must especially now that readers are looking for info fast. they wouldn't waste a lot of time reading a long article if they could see a shorter one with almost the same info.

In Journalism class we were taught to use as many words as were needed and no more. It is a good rule of thumb although writing for a blog is different than writing for a newspaper. Do the article justice and if that takes 1000 words it takes 1000 words. But it takes only 400 words don't use 450.

250 should suffice. Remember, browsers have very short attention spans so make it snappy and interesting.
