Good or Bad Site Idea? I'M A NOOB! HELP!

I was thinking of making a website that could give softball tips and things. It would be cool because I play on my school's softball team. I also bat clean up so I could probably help with hitting and I play first base so I could help with fielding. Good idea/Bad idea? I don't see a lot of competition online.

Go ahead and go for it. I agree with Rabble on this one.

A WP blog type format would be easy to start.

As ScriptMan said, a WP blog could be good for start, but you could make something more interactive in time, for example a browser based games or something...This stuff it's catching and if people like it, you could earn some pretty money doing what you like

I'm confused. What do you mean by browser based game?

This sounds like a good idea. Check google adwords to see how competative your top keywords are. Good luck.

Cool idea, I hope you start it!

A word of advice, you're going to want to get traffic to the pages you write, so figure out how you're going to do this BEFORE you start.

If you are going to concentrate on link building so you can rank highly in the search results then make sure you write your articles around keywords a searcher would use to find your content.

If you're going to get traffic from social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon etc... then you might want to break down your content into chunks that fit into that way of viewing the web

Eg: "5 Softball Batting Tips You Can Use Today"

When you get a chance write us back so we can see how you're going with this idea!

Yes, I like it. You should also try to monetize the website in several ways and this way you will earn some for yourself.

Yeah go for it, but keep in mind the keywords which you want to target, so that you stand a chance to come up on the first page of serps (search engine results pages).

Go to google keyword tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) and type in your keyword 'softball tips' and look for the searches per month. The tool will also suggest some other keywords for you.

Look for keywords that have more than 2000 broad searches per month (any less than that will not be profitable enough) and that have less than 50,000-70,000 'phrase' match results in google (any more than that will be too tough to compete in). To conduct a phrase search, take the keywords you got from the keyword tool and search for it in google using quotation marks and look at the number of results.
