What is the exact meaning of "launch a website"? I use a Google friendly wordpress theme to start a blog, then add posts to it. I didn't do anything to "launch" it, several days later, my blog was indexed by Google (when it had several posts, less than 10, I can't remember the exact number, sorry); and I also find every time when I add a post to the blog, the post is indexed by Google in several hours.

Then I start building backlinks for it.

1-2 blog articles should be fine, as long as the rest of your site isn't one huge under-construction sign after another

As soon as you have an article ready, you can post it, I see no reason to wait! As long as your site is functional

I would only build the website out as you add quality content, obviously responses to your blog posts should automatically "page out". As another member pointed out if you put "under construction" pages on it may hurt your site.

I suggest you to start with about 3 articles and then add articles to it with a steady speed. For example once a day. This method is better than starting with 10 articles and leaving it for a week and then starting it again.

Don't think of just starting with particular number of pages. What afterwards? How you want to develop and what is your intention of starting it, that is more important. Ask yourself if those l0 articles are enough for that purpose. You can guess it correctly.
