AS for Ezine, I believe they require 400 or more, not the 1000 as stated.
Yeah, thanks for correction. It was 2500 characters, not words. Around 400+ words.

I would think if you are going to take the time to write an article it would have real information in it instead of being written just for SEO purposes.

Why would you bother making a distinction?

Aren't you writing to inform/entertain your readers and also have the article found through the search engines?

Thank you for asking. Let me explain further.

If you have a site like Oprah Winfrey then 1200 words is not enough since you are giving people pure informations. This is same as wikileaks.

But if you are doing it for SEO 300-500 is much cheaper if you are paying someone to make your articles. Like myself I'm not a writer so I have to hire someone to do the articles for me. But of course when you hire someone you will give him guidelines on how to do your articles. But this is just me. If you can afford to pay for 2000 words per article then it's up to you.

Have a nice day !

How many of those short articles are being bookmarked or otherwise have been organically (not manipulated by you) had the word spread by readers?

Thank you for your reply.

In my experience since there are lots of ways to get your article to spread out there. One is RSS and also there are millions of scraper sites out there. Because of all these you wont be able to put an exact number on how many are being spread by readers.

You can view your awstats from your fantastico cpanel. you can go to google and type in Links;domainname.com. But these are just partial, and all the stats that google shares are 3 months old.

Unless you have a software that specifically looks for your article spread count.

But if you can share to us a good solution to find out the article spread count we would be glad to hear it from you. If your gonna ask me I have no idea how to get it. Thank you in advance if your willing to share it to us.

A 350-500 word article should suffice. Also, the format of the article should have an impact on the readers. A long article, properly formatted, can still have that reading magnet as compared to a short, boring 300 word one-paragraph article.

From my experience, there is usually a minimum of 350-400 words. Something probably in the 450-500 feels just about right to me, as a writer and a reader.

I still think that 400 - 500 is the best size. Anything beyond, and attention begins to wane considerably....

I usually do around 400 - 500 words. Anymore than that and I try to break the subject up. For example I did a very long post about starting a business. I decided it was better to break that post up into sections since it was probably 1500 - 2000 words when I was done!

Business idea ---> Paperwork/licensing --- > Sourcing Product (ect.)

I then turned that article into more valuable articles instead of just one. If you want the information together you can also link at the bottom to "continued here" or "next step here!" ect. People get kind of ADD if they have to read more than that..

I always think that 400 words is the minimum number for an article. But there are so many other factors that determine what makes a good article other than it's length, as mentioned in many posts here. The content must be original, relevent and useful. Bullet points work well, and if you are going to the Squidoo and Hubpages end of articles, images and video also help to enhance the likeability of an article.

Contents less than 200 words are not really good for me. Although some people are saying that 1000 words are not really compelling to readers I would respectfully disagree to this one. When your content is of great value and possesses charisma that makes readers dig more details, 1000 words is okay. However, 400-500 word articles are good enough.

When I write articles that I want to rank high in a particular niche, I check first 10 pages in google and go with average most of the times. For this I have to love my seo power suite software. Dose all the analyzing I need.

i post around 500 words article on my blog but sometimes 400 words is also enough as to cover the topic which you are trying to target

Images also play a big role, so a post with 350-400 words + images also works really good

I've generally always considered "blog posts" to be anywhere from 100 to 500 words and "articles" to be more around 600-1500+. They require more facts and evidence, thus will certainly be longer than blog posts.

Google likes more comprehensive articles. This means at least 1,000 words. If you want Google to rank your site as the best answer to search queries, you have to give the best answer. 400 words won't cut it anymore.

around 300 words is a good article - also google appreciates lengthy articles - my website has both lengthy (more than 500 words) and short (less than 200 words) articles. My lengthy articles are quickly indexed by google and i receive more organic traffic for the same. Also lengthy articles engage readers to spend little more time on it therby increasing our Avg. Time on Site -

But beware readers are our customers - so an article shouldn't irritate them and should be engaging -

The decent length of any quality article is between 400-500 words.

Not a bad idea to split your articles into two parts.

It varies, some of my articles are nearly 800 words in length and do well, but there are other articles I have that are much less (450-500 words) and do even better.

Its a combination of the quality of the article and how relevant it was to their search.
