Journalism

Journalism has definitely grown into an art that requires knowledge of writing, research and technology. In my opinion, a good journalist can certainly write and research but can also provide the essential technology to engage the reader. I've seen clever articles published through poorly designed sites and with improper/amateur use of photos and video (I'm guilty of this too).

What does everyone think? Does a journalist need to know the in's and out's of technology to properly get their message heard?

I agree with your thoughts. Journalism now begins to overlap into technology. Why? Technology is one of the means in spreading and sharing the journalistic skills of a writer. May I add that journalists or writers must also be marketers themselves because they need to sell their ideas by getting the attention of readers.

True.

In all actuality, and if you're doing it by yourself, a writer/journalist needs to be all things in one. If they can't, they then need to be able to at least purchase these things. Their site needs to be presentable, marketable, well written and with credible sources and capture the reader through images/media.

Tough task; but I think the journalist/writer can have a bigger voice if everything is done correctly.

I believe that for a journalist to succeed in his field nowadays, it is necessary to incorporate technology into his writing. I mean, it shouldn't be something that people should avoid. It's a part of the changes we have to cope up with. And for a journalist to strive, he must know how to utilize those changes in the best way possible for his chosen field to make it through today's demanding and internet savvy consumers.

Agreed.

I've been playing around more with SEO, Meta tags and the like and have seen an increase in traffic. I like to think that my writing has attracted the followers, but I know that the technology at least got them there.

More to learn.
