It is not a matter of how long the article needs to be. It is just a matter of how well you reply to the users' queries with it.
Do it as long as necessary.

You need to be concise to a certain degree, people don't like to read too much these days.

This isn't a hard and fast rule, but given equal circumstance I have found this to be the case. Until you test on many sites just stating that content length is unimportant is not factually correct. Once you have a good readership and a well respected site then ranking posts of only 2000 characters is easily achievable. Try doing that on a brand new site though? Then try A/B testing on 10 new sites, 20, 30. Then maybe give an informed view based on hard data. You will find the same as me I'm sure.
Too many people state length of post isn't important, in many cases it is.
|
Just wondering: rank faster than less or more than 900 - 1000 words? I have also tested what word amount is optimal and I have found that the longer the article, the better it ranks.

Context No Content Or Quality
Everyone keeps talking about content and quality but no one is talking about context.
Context is becoming the single most important thing when it comes to SEO nowadays.
You can have thousands of words that are high quality and if you compare it to say an info graphic, tool, app, equation, etc with powerful text you will see that context will always win.
When you visit a page that has something worth while, the search engines will pick up on this, and will rate you higher than just words.
With this in mind you can keep your posts to 350 words and you will be just fine but you will have to add high quality context to it.

So it is good to focus on quality not quantity.

I don't think so, as much as the content is lengthy that much chances are to be ranked because organic searches are not exact as the keywords.

I wrote 2 articles last week.
One with 350 words and the other with 860 words.
The one with 350 words is getting great traffic from Google since it's more useful to people and a quality article.
I'd suggest you to go for quality and not the quantity!

Try another translator - the one you are using isn't feeling well.

I am posting again in this thread because today I was in the Hangout of Google webmaster's where he also asked this same question & people from Google replied that there is no as such specific words limit Google recommends to rank in the search engine but your content should match the query of the users.
300 words or 3000 words doesn't matters for them.
This is the webmaster hangout link
Must see & you will learn lots of new things here

This is nonsense.
Can you explain how you came up with these numbers and do you have a case study to prove what you claim?
Taking guess's when it comes to SEO is how people get nailed with penalties and we don't want our members on this forum to have that happen.
Backup your response with details. Are you posting just for post count or are you adding value to the discussion?

Show us examples of your 'viral' 250 word posts with info graphics...happy to wait.
"can go viral"....nothing like a vagary when talking about technicalities.

Since google implemented rankbrain I'm under the impression that longer is definitely better.
How long? Well honestly It might even be a few thousand words if it's filled with content

Good user behavior & more social shares always a strong signals for search engines to rank these articles.

Quality matter a lot than quantity. Always try to write user-friendly and easy to understand article which gets shared by a large number of people.

It depends if you are writing a blog post or content for website.
If you write 1500 words for your website page. Your visitors will run from your website. I would say for website home page content with 400-500 visitor is good.
Also some of big hit machine blogger write about 4000 words and they get great visitors on their blogs. But if you check the bounce rate is 85%.
I would suggest write content for audience and not for search engines. In coming years, you would see that lesser content will work more.
For example: If we run a PPC campaing, we have a landing page with minimum content and important information in short. Why?
The goals should be conversions? A tutorial can be 5000+ words and you can divide in 5 parts.
But for case studies, white papers etc. Keep content limited to 500 words.
Be unique, Be natural and don't be boring whenever you write content.

MOZ is not Google.
There are lot of factors behind ranking a page on Google's 1st page and I believe Article length is one of them. I can't give you exact word count for ranking a page but I prefer make it to at least 1200+ words.
Just do a quick search on any topic, you will see around 80% of sites ranking on 1st page having more than 1000 words. But, I am still not sure.
However, I have a valid source where you can understand more on this topic: https://www.quicksprout.com/2014/03/...driven-answer/
